Cat5e stands for enhanced category 5 and plenum refers to the jacket rating of the cable. It means the cable can be used in indoor plenum spaces.
Cat5e riser cable features a communications multipurpose riser (CMR) jacket which can be used in indoor vertical spaces such as inside walls. Cat5e plenum cable on the other hand features a thick communications multipurpose plenum (CMP) jacket.
Both Cat5e and Cat6 plenum cables come with the same plenum jacket and the difference between both is their categories. Cat5e is the enhanced category 5 of twisted pair ethernet cables whereas Cat6 is category 6.
The cable is safe to be used in walls however, a riser is more suitable for such installations. Because plenum cables are more expensive, we recommend using the riser cables in walls and the plenum cable in air-handling spaces and other horizontal installations.
Our cat5e plenum cable comes in 1000ft spools. It can deliver its optimal performance at up to 100 meters which is a blazing 100 MBit/s.
